Mohali MC fines firm ₹5,000 for dumping cement in Sector 89 | Hindustan Times

By bholaestates· Published ·2 min read

The Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) has imposed a ₹5,000 fine on Surya Con Building Trust and impounded its vehicle after workers allegedly dumped cement in an open area in Sector 89, despite an earlier warning, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana took action against the company and handed the vehicle over to the police. The civic body also obtained a written undertaking from the firm promising that it would not dump cement or construction waste in open spaces again.

Repeat violation prompts civic action

According to the mayor, officials had caught the same vehicle dumping cement in the open on September 28. At that time, the vehicle was released after a warning. Following the alleged repeat incident, the MC impounded the vehicle and imposed the penalty.

The mayor said that dumping cement and concrete in open plots damages public spaces, affects parks and harms the environment. He also stated that vacant plots would not be allowed to become unauthorised dumping grounds.

Further action possible for repeat offenders

The MC has said it will continue inspection drives to identify and take action against those dumping construction waste in open areas. The mayor warned that repeat offenders could face further legal action, including action under Section 324 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which concerns mischief causing damage to property.

The company has been asked to comply with its written undertaking. Officials indicated that further action could follow if the undertaking is violated.

What this means for Mohali residents

The incident highlights the importance of responsible construction-waste disposal in Mohali’s developing residential sectors. Unauthorised dumping can affect neighbourhood cleanliness, public spaces and the surrounding environment.

Residents who witness illegal dumping can report it to the relevant civic authorities and provide details of the location and incident to support enforcement action.
