The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has issued a notification to acquire about 502 acres in six villages of Mohali district, The Tribune reported on 10 March 2026.

Where and what for

PurposeLand
Commercial area expansion, Sector 87about 19.6 acres in Manakmajra, 116.9 acres in Nanomajra, 65 acres in Sohana and one kanal in Sambhalki
Industrial area expansion, Sector 101129 acres in Durali
Industrial park, Sector 103141.8 acres in Durali and 29.8 acres in Saneta

Terms for landowners

The land is being acquired under the older land pooling policy, which gives owners the option of payment or developed plots in return. GMADA has completed a social impact assessment, which an expert group reportedly approved.

Objections can be filed within 60 days of the notification. From the date of notification, the land cannot be sold or bought. The report noted that a court is considering a question about Durali farmers not being made partners in land pooling at prominent locations.

What it means

If you own land or are negotiating to buy land in these villages, the notification changes everything: registration of sales is barred, and compensation or pooled plots will follow the acquisition terms. For the wider market, Sector 87's commercial expansion and the new industrial sectors signal where GMADA expects the next round of commercial and employment growth.
